Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an appointment to see one of your optometrists?

For a regular appointment, you will need to make an appointment to see one of our Optometrists. However, if you have an ocular emergency, we will always fit you in on the day. We also take bookings online via HotDocs. For dry eye and IPL appointments we prefer you call us or email us directly to arrange as these types of appointment require preparation and planning.

How long should I allow for the appointment?

You should allow 45 minutes for each initial consultation and 20–30 minutes for any review consultations. This allows for checking in with the reception desk and finalising any account at the conclusion. If you require spectacles or sunglasses, then the total time can be somewhat longer. There are certain appointments that will take longer, for example dry eye evaluations and diabetic examinations. These will take between 60 and 90 mins total.

What should I bring to my appointment?

If you have been referred by your GP or any other practitioner, your referral should have been forwarded to us prior, but if you have a copy, please bring your referral letter. Other important details to bring along are a list of your medications and eye drops, and the name of your GP and/or Ophthalmologist. For new patients, if you wear spectacles, prescription sunglasses or contact lenses it is important to bring either the actual items or at least your prescription details to your initial consultation.

Do you offer optometrist bulk billing?

Yes. Bulk billing is provided for those patients with a concession card, DVA card and for those that identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders. There is a private fee for consultations for patients who do not have concession cards, this will be eligible for Medicare rebate, and the normal gap is $30 above the rebate.

Certain scans such ascorneal topography and OCT scans are available for a fee, with discounts offered to all concession card holders. Certain examinations and reports do not attract a Medicare rebate and are charged privately.

We also accept all major health funds, including AHM, Australian Unity, Bupa, CBA, CUA, Defence Health, GMHBA, HBF, HCF, Medibank Private, OneMedifund, NIB, St Lukes, and Teachers Health.

Are there examinations you offer that are uncommon or not available at all optometrists?

Yes. Our dry eye evaluation is detailed and individualised producing a report and treatment plan. Our practice also offers IPL, Blephasteam and Mastrota expression, lid debridement, lacrimal lavage, ZEST and Zocushield treatments, these are not offered at all optometrists.

We also offer glaucoma investigations including progression mapping OCT scans, Visual Field Tests, Gonioscopy, IOP measurement with multiple instruments. Corneal topography, Anterior corneal OCT scans, assist with fitting all forms of contact lenses including hybrid, scleral, RGPs, Keratoconus lenses, and all forms of soft contact lenses.
